This micro-sound design unit - Maurizio Martusciello and Nicola Catalano from
italy - is well known with their debut album "nth" from LINE. their pure and minute
waves and noise explode as if cleaning up the air and atmosphere.
Maurizio is also known as a drummer/composer with his energetic activities, and
Nicola is a radical journalist introducing world's finest experimental music.their
second album 'rjctd::nw' is to be out from fabric. in august 2003.
minamo
Keiichi Sugimoto, aka Fonica of Tomlab and Tetsuro Yasunaga, an improviser/writer
started minamo as session works in 1999.
After Yuichiro Iwashita and Namiko Sasamoto joined, they have established their
own aesthetics. their static and fragile electro-acoustic fascinates many audiences
not just in Japan but the US, and Europe.
The latest release 'beautiful' has just been out from Brooklyn's Apestaartje.
Sugimoto, Sasamoto, and Yasunaga run a label 'fabric.' and 'cubic music'.
motion
Through a 12" split with Matmos from FAT CAT and two solo albums(include the one
from 12K), Chris Coode aka motion presents slow warmness with layers of low-bit
samples. Nevertheless his activities remain somewhat anonymous, the minute mellowness
covered with fogged noise attracts many of listeners and musicians.
tu m'
A duo of Rossano Polidoro and Emiliano Romanelli from italy. tu m' is famous with
their radical and interesting works such as mp3 streaming website 'tu M'p3' and
live CD-R series 'Mr. Mutt'. After the release of the latest album '.01' from
Jason Kahn's CUT, their unique and funny glitches identify themselves as one of
promised artists in the world of electronic music.
toshimaru nakamura
As a pioneer of no-input mixing board player, Nakamura is recognized as one of
the most remarkable sound artists in the world. his activities in the center of
improvised music is always taken much notice by media, musicians, and listeners.
His latest solo cd is 'vehicle' from cubic music.
masahiko okura
saxophonist/bass clarinet player. Okura started his career as a free jazz player
influenced by new wave, dub, funk, and so on. Passing through various sessions
and band activities, now he has reached at the style of making extremely micro
and static sound with his saxophone. An opus on this compilation was made just
with bass clarinet (with little edit). You must be surprised to hear this glitchy
sound - all of them are only from his breathing via instruments.
yoshio machida
As a multiple artist, Machida is enthusiastic about focusing on a relation between
material and processing under the theme of memory and resonance by making use
of field recordings, amorphone(customized steel pan), and graphic art named 'photobatik'.
Now he is making a new album following the second album 'Hypernatural #2' from
Softl Music.
aero
Born in Netherlands, aero/Koen Holtkamp is best known as a runner of Brooklyn
based electronic music label 'apestaartje'. His gradual sound design with max/msp
is cool, but its touch is somewhat organic and gives us something warm.
His second full length al bum "rises and falls" is to be out in 2003 from apestaartje.
kazumi namba
Namba is known as a member of Tokyo's cool and well-made, but somewhat cynical
pop group 'Kuchiroro'. He is also running online selected CD shop 'Ontonson -
www.ontonson.com'. This is his first recording as a solo artist. Its simple aesthetics
made with pre-set sine waves of a sampler are worth listening to rely on it. Not
a few music-addicted have already started paying attention to this promised sound
maker of new age.
alejandra and aeron
Alejandra Salinas and Aeron Bergman -the owner of a Barcelona based label 'Lucky
Kitchen' are identified their own 'Electric Folk Music'. They mixes elements of
folklore and electro acoustic sound with exquisite balance. The base of the song
on this compilation is a material of field recordings around their home. you can
hear Alejandra's grand mother talking, puppies yelping, and TV shows among glitches
and beautifully processed strings. it fits this album as the happy-sad ending
with smiling.
vinnie ray
All cover arts were drawn by New York based graphic artist Vinnie ray. As you
see his works of 'Sonic Fossil Series' and 'Listening Series', you will find music
influences motivationally his mind against drawings quite much. The main theme
of his works stand on changes of one's mind and souls among the inner space/public
space.
